Kohei Nawa

Kohei Nawa (b. 1975, Osaka, Japan) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the perception of virtual and physical space, confronting the borders between nature and artificiality. He examines relationships between the individual and the whole, and the ways parts aggregate together, like cells, to create complex and dynamic structures. Nawa received a PhD in Fine Art Sculpture from the Kyoto University of Arts in 2003. Notable solo exhibitions include L_B_S at Maison Hermès, Tokyo (2009); Synthesis at Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2011); and SCULPTURE GARDEN at Kirishima Open-Air Museum, Kagoshima (2013). He participated in the 6th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane, Australia, in 2009; the 14th Asian Art Biennale Bangladesh in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2010 (Grand Prize winner); and the Aichi Triennale in Nagoya, Japan, in 2013, among others. Nawa is currently an Associate Professor at the Kyoto University of Art and Design. For more information visit http://kohei-nawa.net/
